let the side of square be x
draw a diameter as diagonal of square
diameter=8+8=16cm

let the triangle formed be abc
in triangle abc by Pythagoras thoerum

x^2+x^2=16^2
2x^2=256
x=16/√2
x=8√2cm

area of square =8√2^2
=64×2
=128cm^2
