Given:

The area of a trapezium = 119 cm²

Altitude (h) of the trapezium = 7cm

One of the parallel sides is longer  than the other by 8 cm

To find:

Length of the two parallel sides

Solution:

Let the shorter side be x cm.

The other side will be x+8 cm

We know that area of a trapezium = 1/2 X altitude X (sum of parallel sides)

Substituting the values,

1/2 X 7 X (x + x + 8) = 119

or 7/2 (2x + 8 ) = 119

2x = 34 - 8

or x = 13 cm

So, x + 8 = 13 + 8 = 21 cm

Hence, the parallel sides of the trapezium are 13 and 21 cm long.
