The area of a trapezium is 224 square centimetre and its height is 14cm.If one of the parallel sides is longer than other by 8cm,find the length of two parallel sides.

we have , Area of trapezium = 1/2h(a + b)

∴    a + b = 2 × Area / h

⇒x + (x + 8 ) = 2 × 224 / 14 = 32

⇒2x + 8 = 32 ⇒ 2x = 24

∴ x = 12cm

Hence, the parallel sides are 12cm and 20cm
