GIVEN :-

area of the trapezium = 248m²

height of the trapezium = 8m

Length of the parallel sides = ??

ATQ, one of the parallel sides of the trapezium is 4m less than the other.

let the greater one be x

therefore the smaller parallel side = x - 4

formula to find the area of a trapezium is 1/2 × h(b1 + b2)

where b1 and b2 are the parallel sides respectively.

➡ 1/2 × h(b1 + b2) = 248m²

➡ 1/2 × 8(x + x - 4) = 248m²

➡ 4(2x - 4) = 248m²

➡ 8x - 16 = 248m²

➡ 8x = 248 + 16

➡ 8x = 264

➡ x = 264/8

➡ x = 33m

hence, the length of the parallel sides are :-

  • b1 = x = 33m

  • b2 = x - 4 = 33 - 4 = 29m

VERIFICATION :-

= 1/2 × 8(33 + 29)

= 4 × 62

= 248cm²

hence verified!

ANSWER

Given:

Area of trapezium= 248 m²

Height (h)= 8 m

Let the one parallel side be= x m

Other parallel side =( x-4) m

Area of trapezium = 1/2 ( sum of parallel sides) × height

248 = 1/2 ( X+ X- 4)× 8

248 = (2x - 4) × 4

248/4 = 2x-4

62 = 2x-4

62+4= 2x

66= 2x

X= 66/2

X= 33

One parallel side (X)= 33 m

Other parallel side(x-4)= 33-4= 29 m
