The area of a trapezium is 7224 sq.m.The distance between the parallel sides  is 28 m.If one parallel side is twice the other.Find the length of the parallel sides.

Answer:

let the first parallel side be x

the 2nd parallel side be 2x

Area of trapezium = 1/2 (sum of parallel sides)×h

7224 = 1/2 (x+2x)×28

7224 = 3x/2×28

7224 = 42x

x = 7224/42

x = 172

hence the first parallel side is 172m

the second parallel side is 2×172 = 344m
