Area of triangle = 48cm^2
Base of triangle = 12cm

Area of triangle = 1/2 × base × altitude
48cm^2 = 1/2 × 12cm × altitude
(48cm^2 × 2) / 12cm = altitude
96cm^2 / 12cm = altitude
8 cm = altitude

Therefore altitude of the triangle is 8cm
