we know that perpendicular from the vertex of a isosceles triangle bisects the non equal side.

so lets draw a perpendicular from vertex of 5 5cm side on 6 cm side. it will bisect it into 3cm and 3cm.

now the newly formed triangle is right angle triangle.

so its base is 3cm hypotenous is 5cm so its height will be 4 cm by using Pythagoras.

so height of isosceles triangle is 4 cm and base is 6cm .

so will be is 1/2×base×height

=1/2×4×6

=12cm^2
