The perimeter of the field is  66 m.

Explanation:

Let l be the length  and b be the breadth of the field.

As per given , we have

Area of rectangular field = length x breadth = lb = 260 m².

b=\dfrac{260}{l}   (1)

Also , its length been 5m less and the breadth 2m more the field would have been in the shape of a square.

i.e. l-5 = b+2  (∵Sides of square are equal)

\Rightarrow\ l-b=7

Put value of b from (1) , we get

l-\dfrac{260}{l}=7\\\\\Rightarrow\ l^2-7l-260=0\\\\\Rightarrow\ l^2+13l-20l-260=0\\\\ (l+13)(l-20)=0\\\\\Rightarrow\ l= -13 \ or\ 20

Since length cannot be negative , so l= 20 m

Now , b = \dfrac{260}{20}=13\ m

Perimeter of rectangular field = 2 (l+b)

=2(20+13) m

= 2(33) m

= 66 m

Hence, the perimeter of the field is 66 m.
