Let the side of ABCD be a
a²=area of ABCD
a²=64cm²
a=8cm
Diagonal of ABCD =a✓2=8✓2cm
Side of square formed by mid points of ABCD =a✓2/2=8✓2/2=4✓2
So area of smaller square=(4✓2)²=32cm²
a²=area of ABCD
