The area of the base of a cylindrical vessel is 500 cm2. Water ( density = 1000 kg/m3 ) is poured into it up to a depth of 8 cm. Calculate: (i) the pressure and (ii) the thrust of water on the base. ( g = 10 m/s2 )

pressure=hdg

= 0.08×1000×10

= 800pascal

thrust= (pressure)×area

=800×0.05

=40N
