The area of the trapezium is 210 cm² and its height is 14 cm. if one of the parallel sides is longer than the other by 6 cm,find the parallel sides.

niharika63: Given
niharika63: let a=x,b=x+6
niharika63: area of trapezium=h(a+b/2)
niharika63: 210=14(x+x+6/2)
niharika63: 210×2/14=2x+6
niharika63: 30-6=2x
niharika63: x=24/2
niharika63: x=12
niharika63: therefore a=12;b=18

let the two parallel side be x and x+6 then

area = \frac{1}{2} (sum \: of \: parallel \: side \: ) \times height \\ \\ 210 = \frac{1}{2} (x + x + 6) \times 14 \\ \\ 210 = 14x + 42 \\ \\ 168= 14x \\ \\ x = 12

sides are of : 12cm and 18cm

The area of the trapezium is 210 cm² and its height is 14 cm. if one of the parallel sides is longer than the other by 6 cm,find the parallel sides.

here is the solution...........

The area of the trapezium is 210 cm²

height is 14 cm

ATQ,

if one of the parallel sides is longer than the other by 6 cm

let the smaller one be a

bigger side = a+6

so,

1/2(a+a+6)14 = 210

14(2a+6) = 210*2

28a+84 = 420

28a = 420-84

28a = 336

a = 336/28

a = 12

other side = a+6 = 12+6 = 18cm

so the parellel sides are 12cm and 18cm

hope it helps u..........
