The area of trapezium is 100 cm square and it's height is 8cm.Find the lengths of the two parallel sides if one side is longer than the other by 5cm

a = x

b = x + 5

Area of trapezium = 1/2h ( a + b)

100 = 1/2 × 8 ( x + x + 5 )

100 = 4 ( 2x + 5)

100/4 = 2x + 5

25 = 2x + 5

2x = 25/5

2x = 5

x = 5/2

x = 2.5cm

Other side of the trapezium

x + 5 = 2.5 + 5

⇒ 7.5cm
