Correct Question :

The area of trapezium is 120 cm². Its height is 10 cm. Given that one of the parallel sides is double of the other. Find the two parallel sides.

Given :

  • Area :- 120cm²
  • height :- 10cm
  • one parallel side = 2 x other parallel side

To find :

  • length of two parallel side

Solution :

we know that ,

Area of trapezium = 1/2(sum of parallel side) x height

let the parallel sides be x and y

° x = 2y

=> 120 = 1/2x(x+y)x10

=> 120 = 1/2x(2y+y)x10 _____(x = 2y)

=> 120 = 1/2x(3y)x10

=> 120 = 15y

=> y = 120/15

=> y = 8

Hence, one of the parallel side is 8cm

so, another side is 2y = 2x8 = 16cm

Therefore, parallel sides are 8cm and 16cm
