Answer: The length of the parallel sides = 18 cm and 12 cm

Step-by-step explanation:

Area of trapezium = 120 cm²

Distance between the parallel sides = 8

Let the length of parallel sides be x and y

We know,

Area of trapezium = 1/2 × sum of parallel sides × distance between parallel

                                                                                 sides (height)

=> 120 = 1/2 × (x+y) × 8

=> 120 × 2 = (x + y) × 8

=> 240 = (x+y) × 8

=> 240/8 = x+y

=> 30 = x+y           .........1

Given,

Difference between the parallel sides is 6 , therefore,

x-y = 6        ..........2

Subtracting...

   x+y = 30

+ x-y =   6

__________

= 2x = 36

=> x = 36/2 = 18

=> x = 18

x - y = 6

=>  18 - y = 6

=> y = 18 - 6

=> y = 12
