Area of a trapezium = 1/2 ( a + b) (h) where a and b are the length of the parallel sides and h, the height.

Given area = 248 m², height = 8m and the lengths of the parallel sides differ by 4 cm.

Define x:

Let x be the shorter length of the parallel sides

Form the equation and solve x:

248 = 1/2 ( x + (x +4) ) ( 8)

248 =4(2x + 4)

248 = 8x + 16

8x = 232

x = 29

Find the parallel sides:

one side = x = 29 m

the other side = x + 4 = 29 + 4 = 33 m

Answer: The 2 lengths are 29m and 33m

8171402510: h is not the height in case of trapezium,it is the distance between the parallel sides
TooFree: The distance between the two parallel lines is the height of the trapezium.
8171402510: but the distance between two non parallel line is also height. So you should have used 'the distance between 2 parallel sides' instead of 'height'

take 1 no. x
and 2no. x+4
put value on (a+b)as (x+(x+4)
mine is easier and short
