Step-by-step explanation:

Area of trapezium = 1/2 × (sum of parallel sides) × height

Let the other parallel side be x

1/2 × (x + 12) × 4 = 42

1/2 × 4 × (x + 12) = 42

2 × (x + 12) = 42

2x + 24 = 42

2x = 42 - 24

2x = 18

x = 18/2

x = 9

hence, the other parallel side is 9cm
