Combined mean = 6.42 (Approx)

Explanation:

Given:

Arithmetic mean for 10(N1) item (X) = 4

Arithmetic mean for 5 (N2) item (Y) = 10

Find:

Combined mean

Computation:

Combined mean = [X(N1) + Y(N2)] / [N1 + N2]

Combined mean = [(4)(10) + (10)(5)] / [4 + 10]

Combined mean = [40+ 50] / [14]

Combined mean = 90 / 14

Combined mean = 6.42 (Approx)

Given : The arithmetic mean of 10 items is 4 and the arithmetic mean of 5 items is 10.

To Find : The combined arithmetic mean

(A) 4 (B) 5 (C) 6 (D) 90

Solution:

\text{Mean}=\frac{\text{sum of all the obervations}}{\text{number of the observations}}

The arithmetic mean of 10 items is 4

Sum of 10  Items = 10 * 4 = 40

The arithmetic mean of 5 items is 10

Sum of 5  Items = 5 * 10= 50

Total Observations/ items = 10 + 5 = 15

Sum of 15 items = 40 + 50 = 90

The combined arithmetic mean  = 90/15  = 6

combined mean  is 6
