Given : The arithmetic mean of 10 observations  is 12.45.  each reading is increased by  5

To Find :  resulting mean is increased by

A) 5 B) 0.5 C) 50 D) 5

Solution:

The arithmetic mean of 10 observations  is 12.45

Sum of all observations = Mean * number of observations

Sum of all observations = = 12.45 *  10

= 124.5

each reading is increased by  5

Hence 10 reading increased by 10 * 5 = 50

New Sum = 124.5 + 50 = 174.5

New Mean = 174.5/10

= 17.45

Mean increased by 17.45 - 12.45

= 5

option D is correct
