The value of X = 7

Given :

Arithmetic mean of 3 , 4 , 6 and X is 5

To find :

The value of X

Concept :

Arithmetic Mean

In measure of central tendency arithmetic mean is the most common measure.

For a given set of observations mean is the average value of a group of numbers.

It is obtained by adding up all the observations divide by the number of observations

Solution :

Step 1 of 2 :

Form the equation to find the value of X

Here it is given that arithmetic mean of 3 , 4 , 6 and X is 5

Number of observations = 4

Sum of the observations

= 3 + 4 + 6 + X

= X + 13

By the given condition

\displaystyle \sf \frac{X + 13}{4} = 5

Step 2 of 2 :

Find the value of X

\displaystyle \sf \frac{X + 13}{4} = 5

\displaystyle \sf{ \implies }X + 13 = 20

\displaystyle \sf{ \implies }X = 20 - 13

\displaystyle \sf{ \implies }X = 7

Hence the required value of X = 7
