The arithmetic mean of runs scored by three batsman Sachin, Rahul and Laxman in the same series are 10 innings 50, 48 and 12 respectively. The standard deviation of their runs is 15, 12 and 2 respectively. Who is the most consistent of the three?

Given :

S_mean = 50

S_SD = 15

R_mean = 48

R_SD = 12

L_mean = 12

L_SD = 2

To find :

Which player is the most consistent one?

Solution :

Coefficient of variation CV = (SD / mean) × 100

S_CV = (15 / 50) × 100

S_CV = 30

R_CV = (12 / 48) × 100

R_CV = 25

L_CV = (2 / 12) × 100

L_CV = 16.67

Since, the coefficient of variation of Laxman is the least among the three.

Therefore, Laxman is the most consistent of the three.
