Answer:

Essentially, the astrologer gives the stranger this piece of advice as a means of self-preservation. He recognizes the stranger as the man he tried to kill after a drunken quarrel decades ago.

Explanation:

I do not believe in astrology. Simply because astrologer's cannot be held accountable in case of a "wrong prediction".

All the members in my family deeply believe in astrology and I have personally seen them giving hefty amounts as "consultation fees" to the astrologer. (Please note that there is no invoice/bill issued for this). Science apart, astrologers are also doing a job. get paid for the work they are doing and that too, handsomely.

Ok. They do their job and get paid. What's wrong here?

What's wrong here is the fact that incase the prediction is wrong, there is nothing much you can do about it.

Consider this situation. You are 20 years old now. You go to an astrologer because you are a firm believer in the science. Your problem is simple. You just want to know what life has in store for you,say,20 years down the line.

Now, the astrologer does something (I am not saying that this is complete BS, there may be proper science to it) and tells you that by the time you are 32, you're gonna have one helluva time in your career. You're gonna travel across the seas and that you're gonna own at least two houses. ( Jokes apart, according to an astrologer this is what life has in store for me.)

You are so happy. You jump with joy. You pay the astrologer handsomely and then you leave.

You are 32..33..34.. That promotion at work never came. You couldn't travel abroad because unfortunately, there's a court hearing pending. You just have one house and that too a rented one.

But this is not what the astrologer predicted right? This is not what you paid him for. His prediction was wrong. In consumer terms, the service he delivered was faulty.

And, this is precisely where the problem comes.

The astrologer cannot be held accountable for his wrong prediction.

How many astrologers you know give a full refund incase the prediction goes wrong?

Some astrologers match the horoscopes and say everything's gonna be fine in your married life. What if one of them dies? Are we entitled for a full refund?

How many of us even dare to ask the astrologer - " What if this turns out to be wrong?"

My father works in the Inspection department of a reputed bank. I have heard him say, " One small mistake, and I'll be in jail for negligence at work."

This is exactly the point I have to make. We are paying astrologers handsomely for the science they practise and the predictions they provide. So why can't they be held accountable incase their service is faulty?

I may start believing in astrology from the day astrologers are willing to provide a full refund/stop practising astrology/face a court case/go to jail in case the prediction provided turns out to be incorrect. Till then, to me astrology is something which poor souls depend on because they believe they are not in control of their life, but some stars and planets thousands of kilometers away are.
