The Assam Reorganization (Meghalaya) Act, 1969 was enacted on December 29, 1969 and came into effect in the month of January, 1970 in different dates in order to provide for the constitution in the Assam State of a self-governing Meghalaya State and other issued related with such constitution.
The Assam Reorganisation Act, 1969 provided for the state of Meghalaya to be formed as an autonomous state.
With the formation of Meghalaya this act also provided the state all the powers that are provided to all other states of India like providing it with Executive powers, Council of Ministers, Legislature of Meghalaya and the extent of Executive powers of the state.
This act is comprised of three parts:
● the first part is the preliminary part
● the second part tells about the formation of autonomous state of Meghalaya
● the last part of the third part tells about the Legislature of the state.
