Given : The athletic department wants to paint the school’s mascot logo on the gym locker room wall.

They start by painting a solid blue circle on the wall.

One quart of blue paint covers an area of 78.5 square feet.

To Find :   maximum diameter the logo may have, using one quart of blue paint

Solution:

One quart of blue paint covers an area of 78.5 square feet.

let say Diameter  = 2x  feet

Then Radius =  x   feet

Area of circle  =  π ( Radius)²

=  π x²

 π x²  = 78.5

using π = 3.14

=> x²  =  25

=> x = 5

=> 2x = 10

Hence maximum diameter the logo may have, using one quart of blue paint

= 10 cm
