Element is Sulphur.

(a) Electronic Configuration is 2,8,6.

(b) Valency of the given element Sulphur is -2.

  • In Modern Periodic table atomic number 16 is sulphur.
  • When we write the electronic Configuration of the element 16 it is as follows

                                  K L M

                                  2  8  6

  • K shell can accomodate a maximum of 2 electrons, M shell can accomodate a maximum of 8 electrons and N shell can accomodate a maximum of 8 electrons but we have 6 electrons left after filling 2 and 8 electrons in K and L shells respectively.
  • Valency is the combining capacity of an element with other elements to form a chemical bond.
  • Since the M shell of the Sulphur element contains 6 electrons, it requires 2 more electrons to complete its octet and to acquire stability. So it has -2 as its valency.
