The atomic number of an element X is 20.
a) Write the formula of the compound formed when X reacts with another element Y (atomic number 17)
b) what would be the nature of compound formed ?

atomic number of x is 20 ,

electronic configuration of X will be (2,8,8,2) . it is calcium

and element y has atomin no 17

it's ec will be (2,8,7)

so Y element is chlorine

the formula of compound formed is XY2

CaCl2

the nature of compound is ionic

CaCl2 is formed. It is a salt of strong acid and strong base.
