The elements X (2,7-electronic config.) and Z (2,8,7-electronic config.) will show similar characteristics because they differ in their atomic numbers by 8. Both these are halogens and belong to group 17 (halogen family). Also, they have the same number of valence electrons, that is, 7. These are fluorine (Z= 9) and chlorine (Z = 17).
