The author's and grandmother's friendship was broken due to the demand of situation. As the grandmother was now confined to home, she could not accompany the author to the school neither could she help him in studies. When the author decided to go abroad for studies, the grandmother did not display any emotions and was busy reciting her beads of rosary. She was a woman of few words and her actions spoke louder than words.
Hope it helps

Answer:

When the author was a young boy, his parents shifted to the town leaving him along side his grandmother. They were good friends. She was with him through the day and even accompanied him to and from school. But when his parents had settled within the city, they sent for them. This proved to be a turning point in their friendship. the sole thing that remained unchanged was their common bedroom. She couldn't accompany him to high school as he gone by the varsity bus. He was now in an English school, where they taught science. She couldn't understand English and didn't believe science. the very fact that they weren't taught about god made her unhappy. His music lessons in class made her feel worse. But it had been when he visited the university and got a separate room which their ties were severed further. This wasn't deliberate, but things adversely affected their relationship.
