The lesson Kathmandu by Vikram Seth is an extract from his book From Heaven Lake: Travels Through Sinkiang and Tibet.
Description of Kathmandu bazaar
The author describes the Kathmandu bazaar as a busy place with narrow streets. It is also a religious place with many small shrines adorned with flowers. There are people selling fruits, flute and postcards.
The shops sell all kinds of things such as western costumes, film roles, chocolates, Nepalese antiques and copper utensils.
The streets are noisy with the sound of film songs from radios, bicycle horns, car horns, the sound of stray cows and the vendor's calling out to people.
