- (a) "She was making preparations for the final act." 'final act' author is referring to the oiling of the knife which would be used to cut the jackfruit. The grandmother poured a handful of mustard oil on both his hand for oiling the blades of the knife.
- (b) The author is admiring the way the grandmother was oiling the blades of the knife for the final act of cutting the jackfruit. The author describes how the knife was looking scary when it was lying beside the other kitchen utensils which looked like toys in her hands.
- (c) The author feels honoured when the grandmother called on the author and asked to show the author's palm so that she could apply oil on the author palms to this, the author could not believe that he would also be part of the act of cutting the jackfruit which was a matter of honour to the author.
