Given:

Average age of 5 students = 10

To Find:

Average age of two new students who joined.

Solution:

The average of 5 students = 10

Average = Total age/total number of students

  • From the given statement we can conclude

10= total age/ 5

  • Thus, the total age of the 5 students = 10 × 5 = 50

  • Now, 2 new students have joined, and average is increased by 4

  • Then,

Total number of students = 7

New average = 10 + 4 = 14

New total age of 7 students = 14 × 7

= 98

  • Now, we know that before the addition of 2 new students the total age was 50 but with their addition it has become 98, so the difference of the two will be their total age.

Total age of 2 new students = 98 - 50

= 48

The average age of the two new students = 48/2

= 24

Thus, 24 is the average age of the Two new students.
