in this case there are 6 student and the mean is 11 .. lets create the formula
: x/6 = 11
x being the sum of the students age...
since 2 more students have been added with there ages given .. we can add there ages to other to the original ages of the 6 students... :
x = 11*6 = 66 ( this is the sum of the origional 6 students)
now lets add it to the new ages of the 2 students:
66+14+14 = 94 ..
now that there are no longer 6 students but 8 ( this is because 2 were added) ... we find the mean by dividing the new sum of the students by 8
94/8 = 11.75
