Answer:

Required ratio of boys to girls is 2:3.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given average age of class is 14.8 years.

and average age of boys in the class is 15.4 years and average age of girls is 14.4 years

Let number of boys be x and number of girls be y.

So,total number of girls and boys is (x+y)

Now total sum of ages of all students of class

 = 14.8 \times (x + y) \: years

and sum of ages of boys

 = (15.4 \times x )\: years

and sum of ages of girls

 = (14.4 \times y )\: years

Now we can say,

14.8 \times (x + y) = 15.4x + 14.4y \\ 14.8x + 14.8y = 15.4x + 14.4y \\ 15.4x - 14.8x = 14.8y - 14.4y \\ 0.6x = 0.4y \\  \frac{x}{y}  =  \frac{0.4}{0.6}  \\  \frac{x}{y}  =  \frac{4}{6}  \\  \frac{x}{y}  =  \frac{2}{3}

Therefore,

x:y = 2:3

Hence required ratio of boys to girls is 2:3.

This is a problem of ratio.
