Let ages of the sons are a and b

Also age of their father = c

By condition 1 we get

a + b + c = 20 × 3

Form equation using second condition

Here it is given that the average age of sons is 10 years

By condition 2

a + b = 10 × 2

⇒ a + b = 20 - - - - - (2)

Step 3 of 3 :

Find age of their father

Equation 1 - Equation 2 gives

c = 60 - 20

⇒ c = 40

The age of their father = 40 years
