The average force exerted by the body is the rate of change of momentum per unit time .

Let the initial momentum of the body be P .

The final momentum should be 0 Ns as the body came back to rest .

NOTE :

Momentum is the product of the mass and velocity .

Final momentum is the product of the mass and the final velocity .

Given in the question :

P = 25 Ns .

Final momentum is 0 Ns .

Change of momentum = 25 Ns - 0 Ns

⇒ Change in momentum = 25 Ns .

Now the average force = (change in momentum) / (time)

⇒ 25 Ns / ( 0.05 s )

⇒ 2500 Ns / 5 s

⇒ 500 Ns/s

⇒ 500 N

The force will be 500 N .
