Average in a group of 6 = 115 cm

Lets take the height of boys x1, x2....x5

height of sixth child, x6  = 140 cm

Average in a group of 5 = 110 cm

Now,

(x1+x2+x3+x4+x5) / 5   = 110

x1 + x2 + x3 + x4 + x5 = 550   ( Multiplying 5 by both side )  ------ equation 1

Average in group of 6 =

(x1 + x2 + x3 + x4 + x5 + x6) /6

= (x1 + x2 + x3 + x4 + x5 + 140) /6

From equation 1

550 + 140 / 6

= 690 / 6

New average = 115 cm
