The average marks of 20 students in an examination was 40. it was later found that the marks of two student scored 48 and 40 instead of scoring 23 and 25.find the right average.

Average= Sum of marks / total number of students

Sum of marks = Average× total number of students

According to the question,

Correct Marks = 84+46= 130

Incorrect Marks = 48+64= 112.

So when we delete the incorrect Marks and add correct Marks there will be an increase in total marks of

130–112 = 18.

This 18- marks increase will increase the Average Marks of 40- students by 18/40= 0.45- Marks.

Therefore the new correct average = 68.45
