The average marks of a class of 40 students was calculated
as 62.15. It was later discovered that the marks of a student
were taken as 59 instead of 95. What was the real average

Answer:

63.05

Step-by-step explanation:

mean=sum/total observations

therefore we get sum = 62.15×40=2486

but this is wrong sum

to get correct sum we subract misread value and add correct value in total wrong sum

2486-59+95=2522

therefore correct mean is 2522/40

=63.05

Given, avg = 62.15
Total no.of students = 40
Total marks of students in examination =40x62.15 = 2,486
95-59= 36
2486-36 = 2450
2450/40 = 61.25
