QUESTION:

The average marks of a student in 10 papers are 80. If the highest and the lowest scores are not considered, the average is 81. Of his highest score is 92, find the lowest.

ANSWER:

Total marks = no. Of papers x averagearks

= 10 x 80 = 800

If lowest and highest marks are not considered, no. Of papers will be 8 only and the new average is 81 (given).

Then, total marks excluding the lowest and the highest is 8 x 81 = 648

Total of lowest and highest marks only

= 800 - 648 = 152.

Highest marks = 92 (given)

Lowest marks = 152 - 92 = 60
