Given:

The average melting point of metals P, Q, R, and S = 753 °C

And average melting point for metals Q, R, S, and T = 951 °C.

Melting point of P = 852 °C

To find:

The approximate melting point of metal T.

Solution:

Let the melting point of metals P, Q, R, S and T be p, q, r, s and t respectively.

Then (p+q+r+s) /4= 753

q+r+s+t = 3804

This means, p+q+r+s = 3012

Also we know that (q+r+s+t) /4 = 951...(2)

Putting the value obtained in equation 1 in the equation 2, we get:

3012 - p + t = 3804

t = 3804 - 3012 + p

t = 792 + 852

t = 1644°C

Therefore the melting point of metal T is 1644°C.
