Lets say that the numbers are x, y and z.

Then,(x+y)/2=16

(x+y+z)/2=17

(x+y)/2+z/2=17

16+z/2=17

z/2=1

z=2

The third number is 2.

Answer:

  • Third number = 2

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

  • Average of three numbers = 17
  • Average of first two numbers = 16

To Find:

  • Third Number.

Now let three numbers be 'x', 'y', and 'z'.

According to question,

=> (x + y + z)/2 = 17

=> x + y + z = 34 .....(1)

Now,

=> (x + y)/2 = 16

=> x + y = 32 .....(2)

Now, put the value of 'x + y' in equation (1).

=> x + y + z = 34

=> 32 + z = 34

=> z = 34 - 32

=> z = 2.

Hence, Third number = 2.
