let the first observation be X
then second one =X+4
third one =X+4+4=X+8
fourth one =X+8+4=X+12
fifth one =X+12+4=X+16

as per the problem ,

(X+X+4+X+8+X+12+X+16)÷5=28
(5x+40)÷5=28
5x+40=28*5
5x+40=140
5x=140-40
5x=100
X=100/5
X=20

therefore the observations are 20,24,28,32,36.

the largest observation =36.

therefore the answer is 36.

The largest observation is 36.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given : The average of 5 consecutive multiples of 4 is 28.

To find : What is the largest number ?

Solution :

Let the first multiple of 4 be 'x'.

The second multiple is 'x+4'

The third multiple is 'x+8'

The fourth multiple is 'x+12'

The fifth multiple is 'x+16'

The average of 5 consecutive multiples of 4 is 28.

i.e. 28=\cfrac{x+x+4+x+8+x+12+x+16}{5}

28=\cfrac{5x+40}{5}

28=\cfrac{5(x+8)}{5}

28=x+8

x=28-8

x=20

The numbers are 20,24,28,32,36.

The largest observation is 36.
