The average of 5 numbers is 250 but at the later stage it was found that a number 53 was taken as 35 so what will be the correct average of the numbers??

(a+b+c+d)/5 = 250

a+b+c+d = 250×5 = 1250

Suppose average came 1250 when d = 53 . But we came to know that d ≠ 53 & d = 35.

Now , we would have to subtract the extra we added to the sum for calculating new average.

So ,

Sum of 5 numbers (when d=35) = 1250-(53-35) = 1250 - 18 = 1232

New average = new sum / 5

= 1232/5 = 246.4 ( Ans)
