The value of Y  is -1.

We know that the average of 'n' number of items is = Sum of n o. of items/n

Given, the average of 8,13,X and Y is 6.

Total terms = 4

Sum of them = 8+13+X+Y = 21+X+Y

Average = (21+X+Y)/4

This is equal to 6.

(21+X+Y)/4 = 6

⇒ X + Y = 24 - 21 = 3   ...(1)

Again, the average of 15,9,X and X is 8.

So, (15+9+X+X)/4 = 8

⇒ 24 + 2X = 32

⇒ 2X = 32 - 24 = 8

⇒ X = 8/2 = 4

Putting this  value of X in (1), we get

Y = 3-X

= 3 - 4 = -1
