Answer:

9

Hello!

I hope this helps you.  Have a great day!!!

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the five numbers be a, b, c, d, e.

Averge of all five is 5

=> ( a + b + c + d + e ) / 5 = 5

=> a + b + c + d + e = 25     (**)

Average of first four is 4

=> ( a + b + c + d ) / 4 = 4

=> a + b + c + d = 16      (++)

Subtracting equation (++) from equation (**) gives:

e = 25 - 16 = 9

Let the fifth number be x

Let the average of first four numbers ( let them be a, b, c, d) = a+b+c+d/4 =4

=> a+b+c+d=4x4=16

Average of all numbers=5

=> a+b+c+d+x/5=5 (send denominator 5 to the other side)

=>(a+b+c+d) +x=5x5=25

=>(16) +x=25

=> x=25 - 16

=>x=9

This is the answer
