Answer:

Answer is (b) 36

Step-by-step explanation:

if we take the set of five consecutive even numbers as x,x+2,x+4,x+6,x+8;

average=sum of the numbers ÷ total no. of numbers

average of five consecutive even numbers=

x+x+2+x+4+x+6+x+8 ÷ 5 =40

5x+20÷5=40

5x+20=40×5

5x+20=200

5x=200-20

5x=180

x=180÷5

x=36

then the sequence would be 36,38,40,42,44.

since 36 is the lowest among them,36 is the answer

Answer:

(b) 36

Step-by-step explanation:

let numbers are n,n+2,n+4,n+6,n+8

sum of these numbers= n+n+2+n+4+n+6+n+8= 5n+20

no of numbers=5

average= sum /no of events

average= 5n+20/5= 40(given)

5n+20=200

5n=180

n=36 and it is smallest number
