let the number to be found=x

let the other 2 numbers= x and y

(y+z)/2=25

∴y+z=50

(x+y+z)/3=17

(x+50)/3=17

(x+50)=51

∴x=1

The third number is 1.

Step-by-step explanation:

Since we have given that

Average of three numbers = 17

Let the number be a, b, c.

so, it becomes,

\dfrac{a+b+c}{3}=17\\\\a+b+c=17\times 3=51

Average of two of these numbers = 25

So, it becomes,

\dfrac{a+b}{2}=25\\\\a+b=25\times 2=50

So, using both the equation, we get that

a+b+c=51\\\\50+c=51\\\\c=51-50\\\\c=1

Hence, the third number is 1.
