\bold{\boxed{Average=\dfrac{Sum\:of\:observations}{Number\:of\:observations}}}

===============================

Average rainfall for three months = ( sum of rainfall happen in 1st , 2nd and 3rd month) / ( total number of months )

Rainfall for first two months = 15cm and 16cm

Sum of rainfall for first two months = 15 cm + 16 cm

Sum of rainfall for first two months = 31 cm

Given,Average rainfall for three months = 14 cm.

     Applying the formula given above :-

⇒ 14 cm  = ( 31 cm + rainfall for 3rd month ) / ( 3 )

⇒ 14 cm x 3 = ( 31 cm + rainfall for 3rd month )

⇒ 42 cm = 31 cm + rainfall for 3rd month

⇒ 42 cm - 31 cm = rainfall for 3rd month

⇒ 11 cm = rainfall for 3rd month

Therefore, rainfall for third month is 11 cm.
