The speed of the aeroplane is equal to 315 km/hr.

Let the speed of the airplane be x Km/hr and the time taken by the aeroplane to complete the journey be y hours.

initially , distance travelled = xy

When speed is reduced by 60 Km/hr , x - 60 . The time taken = y + 24

Distance travelled = (x-60)(y+(24/60))

=> xy = xy + (2x/5) - 60y - 24

=> (2x/5) - 60y = 24 --------(1)

When speed is increased by 40 Km/hr , x + 40 . The time taken = y - 12

Distance travelled = (x+40)(y-(12/60))

=> xy = xy - (x/5) + 40y - 5

=> (-x/5) + 40y = 5 --------(2)

Solve the equations (1) and (2) to get the values of x and y.

x = 315 km/hr , y = 1.7 hours.
