The temperature on 1st June is 39°C.

Given:-

Average temperature for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd June = 40°C

Average temperature for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th June = 41°C

The temperature on the 4th day = 42°C

To Find:-

The temperature on 1st June.

Solution:-

We can easily calculate the temperature on 1st June by using these simple steps.

As

Average temperature for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd June (avg1) = 40°C

Average temperature for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th June (avg2) = 41°C

The temperature on the 4th day = 42°C

Let, the temperature on 1st day be x

The temperature on the 2nd day be y

and the temperature on the 3rd day be z

Now, the Average temperature for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd June = 40

i.e.

 \frac{x + y +z }{3}  = 40

x + y + z = 40 \times 3

x + y + z = 120

Also, the Average temperature for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th June (avg2) = 41°C

i.e.

 \frac{y + z + 42}{3}  = 41

y + z + 42 = 41 \times 3

y + z + 42 =123

y + z = 123 - 42

y + z = 81

Now, putting this value in the above equation

x + y + z = 120

x + 81 = 120

x = 120 - 81

x = 39

Hence, The temperature on 1st June is 39°C.
