To find the average velocity we have to add the total displacement and divide it by the total time. In the first part of the journey, the object covers 10m in 3 seconds. In the second part of the journey, the object covers 15m in 5 seconds. The total  displacement in this journey is 25m. The total time is 8 seconds.

The average velocity v of an object is the total displacement d and total tile tis computed as follows,

v=\frac{d}{t} =\frac{25}{8}=3.125m/s

The average velocity of the object is 3.125m/s
